Who is Kendry Páez?
He’s actually a product of Independiente del Valle’s academy, which happens to be one of the best youth systems in South America.
The Ecuadorian side have apparently developed many brilliant talents, such as Brighton Albion’s Moisés Caicedo.
Kendry is considered one of the best talents of his generation in South America. Apparently, he has many years ahead of him in the world of football.
At the age of 15, Páez made his professional debut for Independiente del Valle. And he scored in their 3-1 victory over Mushuc Runa on February 25, 2023.
As a result, he became the youngest debutant and goalscorer in the Ecuadorian top flight, drawing attentions from several clubs across Europe.
Kendry sees Lionel Messi as his football idol, as regards how to improve his dribbling prowess. The 15-year-old watched the seventh Ballon D’or winner as a child.
Kendry Páez Strengths and Weaknesses
Having been just 15-year-old, the Ecuadorian youngster’s attributes outweigh his shortcomings. As a result, he’s expected to establish himself at Chelsea.
Kendry has versatility as one his biggest assets. He can comfortably play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, and winger. That shows his level of potential.
Speaking of the player’s strengths, he has pace, dribbling, passing, vision, and technique. He’s very dangerous inside the box, believing so much in his left foot.
As an attacking midfielder, Páez is similar to Juan Mata and Bernardo Silva. As a winger, he’s very similar to Angel Di Maria of Juventus.
In addition, the Independiente del Valle’s academy product is very creative, always creating chances for fun. His ball control is flawless.
Just like Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United. Kendry’s first touch makes him unpredictable against the opposition. Other strengths of the player are;
- Football IQ
- Athleticism
- Long shots
- Agility
- Set-pieces
As regards his weaknesses, Páez needs to work on the frequency and quality of using his weaker right foot. Like Hakim Ziyech, he relies solely on the left foot.
The 15-year-old Ecuadorian gets frustrated on the pitch easily, as he usually argues with the referee, even his teammates. Of course, that’s bad.
Therefore, he’s expected to work on his mentality on the pitch. Apparently, he would have to improve so as to succeed at Chelsea, particularly in the Premier League.
Also, his defensive contribution is very poor. He’s not the kind of winger who tracks back to balance the team’s defensive performance.
Kendry Páez’s Style of Play
The Independiente del Valle’s youngster is an advanced playmaker, having had Lionel Messi as his football idol. He likes to attack from the middle.
The Ecuadorian is a wide attacker who likes to dribble, using tricks to get past his opponents. Like I said earlier, Páez loves to play a free role, roaming and finding space.
Kendry is very unpredictable in a 1v1 situation, always putting his first touch and speed on display. He’s good in both direct and indirect set-pieces.
As a result of his ball movement and pace, the 15-year-old Ecuador international is dangerous in counter-attack. Looks like a good signing for Chelsea.
Páez loves to play long shots, thanks to his flawless finishing ability. He has the ability to score sensational goals from distance.
The player is able to make quick combinations with his teammates at top speed. In the midst of tight situations, he always makes use of his pace.
