Liverpool

The Reds continued their pre-season tour, as they lost 3-4 to Bayern Munich. However, they played impressively, showing their winning mentality.

Jurgen Klopp’s troops haven’t lost any games since the beginning of their pre-season. But they have now lost against the Bavarians.

Of course, Thomas Tuchel knows Liverpool very well, he knows how to attack them. As a result, he destroyed Jurgen Klopp once again.

Even though it was just a club friendly game. Both teams faced each other with a high level of winning spirit, scoring 7 goals.

Liverpool opened the game with Cody Gakpo’s goal after 2 minutes. However, they later failed to capitalize on their victory, conceding 4 goals.

Also, Van Dijk and Luis Díaz were on the scoresheet. Regardless of the result, the Reds are showing signs of improvement, ready to play this season.

In all fairness, there’s a massive gap between Bayern Munich and Liverpool. As a result, it’s more like a fair result for the Reds family.

Meanwhile, there are some lessons learned during the game. Some players outperformed, while others underperformed.

Nevertheless, it shows whether Liverpool are ready for the Premier League this season or not. At least, they have signed two players this summer transfer window.

Liverpool 3-4 Bayern Munich: Five takeaway points from the game

1. Curtis Jones as a defensive midfielder

It’s crystal clear that Liverpool are in need of a defensive midfielder. They were in shambles in the midfield against the Bavarians.

Despite the presence of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. The Reds failed to control the midfield, showing their weaknesses in the middle.

Curtis Jones is more like a No.8. Therefore, it was difficult for him to play as a defensive midfielder, which is why the Reds seriously need Roméo Lavia.

Trent Alexander-Arnold played as a right-back. Because the Bavarians are good offensively. Regardless, Jones was poor as a lone DM.

2. Luis Díaz offensiveness

The Colombian attacker has been very dangerous on their pre-season tour. He set up many clear chances for Darwin Núñez.

Despite spending half of last season on the sidelines because of injuries. The player was electric against Bayern Munich.

Frankly, Luis Díaz has improved his offensive prowess. He can now comfortably take on 3/4 opponent’s players inside their box.

He’s going to compete with Cody Gakpo this season. However, he will definitely help the team’s offensive performance in many ways.

3. Cody Gakpo as a central-forward

Obviously, the Dutchman is versatile, having the ability to play different positions up front. His versatility helped the Reds on Wednesday.

Cody Gakpo scored the first goal for Liverpool, after 2 minutes. His finishing and positioning were excellent against the Bavarians.

Despite the fact that Bayern Munich were strong and balanced defensively. The Dutchman created space for him, linking up with his teammates.

Gakpo is most likely to shine in the Premier League this season. At least, his versatility allows him to play as a central-forward and on both flanks.

4. Mac Allister & Szoboszlai combo

Under the canopy of the 4-3-3 formation. Jurgen Klopp wants his men to attack from the midfield, which they failed to do on Wednesday.

However, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were brilliant as usual. Their combination worked magic in the midfield.

Both players are going to terrorize many teams in the Premier League this season. They are more like Jurgen Klopp’s dangerous weapons.

Mac Allister and Szoboszlai understood each other very well on the pitch. They communicated flawlessly against the Bavarians.
